Must Have Reference

May 31, 2021 By: David (Coogee, Australia)

Comments
Real handy to have in the shop, its got all the formulas and tables I need.

Pros
The best tool for decoding turning inserts I've ever used.

Cons
The section on sharpening HSS bits on page 68 should be moved to next to the turning formulas or carbide inserts, I can never find it when I need it. Also the third edition doesn't come with a drill guage.

Great product! This book has everything I’ve needed to advance through my fabrication apprenticeship.

Pros
With so much knowledge all in a pocket-sized book, it’s made my job a million times easier.

Cons
It would be great if once purchasing the book you also had access to a digital copy as well, as I often leave my copy in the top draw of my toolbox at work and wish I’d had an extra copy when I tackle some extra jobs around home.

Staggering knowledge.

This is a small profile book of absolute importance. Saved me time off web searches and money from other references I was considering.

Pros
Vast Troves of Information in a compact design, page of interest index tabs.

Cons
Not much detail for end mills.

Must have book for amateurs and professionals alike

Pros
Detail on cutting tools is handy for those of us not on the machines every day

Cons
Some redundant content given the advent of calculators, would be good to see it replaced with a few basic speeds and feeds etc.

Fantastic

Just received my copy. Looks a really useful data resource, already used the circlip section that saved me going back to the house and searching on google.

Pros
Fits in the pocket so can be with you at all times.

Cons
Some information like the table of sines and conversion factors I will never use as I have a calculator.

Fantastic resource with loads of useful information

Pros
Easy to find information

Cons
Could you add JIS bolt identification and mechanical properties in a future edition? JIS grades goes from 4 to 9 and it would be handy to have a cross reference to metric classes.

Everything I need at hand

May 3, 2021 By: Joe Prato (Livonia, United States)

Comments
I haven't had my Machinery's Handbook out since I got the Engineers Black Book. Most of my work as a hobbyist is basic and the Black Book is really handy. Along with the usual reference data, I find the carbide holder and insert tables very valuable, especially the visual identification of insert shapes.

Pros
Just about everything! It is a nice size to keep in one of your tool box drawers. The pages are sturdy (no dog ears yet) and they resist oil and grease stains

Cons
I can't think of any.
